Lindy hop is a partnered, improvised swing dance that originated in the late 1920's and early 1930's. It's danced to a variety of jazz music, and can vary wildly in tempo. Check out the About Lindy Hop page for more information!
While most of our students are college students or young professionals, we have quite a wide age range. For novice dancers, the activity level is the same as a brisk walk, or maybe a light jog.
In choreography and competitions, advanced or professional dancers will often do complicated air-steps. They've practiced for a long time, with proper safety technique. We think that's the proper time to learn air-steps, so never fear- your feet can stay safely on land!
While we don't require you to rotate, we think that you'll get the most out of the class by dancing with as many people as possible. It helps you learn the dance faster, and helps you meet the other people in the class. We suggest that you try one class rotating with other partners, and if you still want to work with only your partner, be our guest!
First time? Choose the Novice Class on Saturday! You can drop in any week.
You don't need anything special to come to class. Wear comfortable clothes that you can move in. Comfort is also the priority in shoe choice, sneakers are absolutely fine to start. Some dancers eventually choose to get dance shoes that are suede or hard leather on the bottom.
